Muslims gained another religious freedom in Germany,

In Germany, Muslims were allowed to bury the dead without a coffin. The Muslim leader says Muslims will now be able to bury according to their traditions and religion.

According to the German website DW.com, the condition of coffins for the burial of Muslims in the state of Byron has been removed from April 1.

Welcoming the government's decision, Arif Tashdeel, spokesman for the SPD's parliamentary group for integration in the federal government, said, "We have had to work hard over the last few years. Will be able to bury.

Many years of struggle

Many years before the law on burials was approved, the management of several cemeteries said they had no problem with it. The Munich city administration has been trying for the past 15 years to allow Muslims to be buried without coffins.

Muslims see the change in the law as a policy of integration and acceptance. Speaking to German radio station Byron, Arif Tashdalen said: "Everyone has the right to a funeral with dignity so that they can decide for themselves what their final rites will be." It is a sign that those who come from abroad and settle here are valued.

The issue was also raised by the SPD party in 2009 but the state parliament has refused to allow changes to the law. Even ten years later, in 2019, the state parliament issued orders to the responsible ministry to relax the law on religious and ideological grounds. At that time, the ordinance related to the funeral was changed but its implementation has become possible from today, April 1.

Legislation on burial is a difficult step in Germany. Most of the powers in this regard are vested in the states, while the municipal administration also has to make decisions keeping in view the local cemetery laws. Only two German states remain where burial without a coffin is still not allowed.

Changes in cemeteries

Despite all the delays, Byron's cemetery is seeing an increase in space for Muslims. Muslims have been given separate places in several cemeteries. Muslims were allowed to bury the dead in Munich's Wald Friedhof Cemetery in 1959, but coffins were not allowed there. However, Muslims there were allowed to turn the corpse towards Mecca.
