The positive economic policy of the government has worked, the world's largest smartphone maker has announced to set up a manufacturing plant in Pakistan, the prices of smartphones in the country is likely to come down. According to the details, a new policy was introduced by the government last year regarding the manufacture of mobile devices in the country, the fruits of which are now beginning to reap. 

The world's largest smartphone maker, Samsung, An important development in this regard is that Samsung has selected companies to set up its unit, which will be shortlisted and will be given the responsibility of manufacturing smartphones, sources said. He said that one of the three parties has a Korean franchise which has set up car assembly plants in Pakistan under the Auto Development Policy (ADP) 2016-17.

He also said that no agreement has been reached so far as Samsung is in the process of finalizing plans to license one of them after shortlisting several companies for mobile phone manufacturing. The world's largest smartphone maker said in a revenue estimate that it expects to make a profit of about ً 125 trillion (11 billion) between April and June, up from 81.50 trillion a year ago.

Sources close to the developments in the mobile phone sector told Dawn that the Korean company plans to start local manufacturing of cell phones in the last quarter of this year. 

Market sources said that Samsung may prefer the option of signing a contract with one of the Korean companies operating in Pakistan due to the comfort level which it may not be able to match with non-Korean companies.

 According to the EDB list, these factories of Nokia, Oppo, Infinix, Techno, iTel, WAV, Alpha, RealMe, Vigotel, D-Code, CallMe, Excel, Spice, TCL Alcatel brand Rawalpindi, Karachi, Lahore , Faisalabad and Islamabad.

Sources said that the government has formed the MDMP to encourage foreign investors to take a decision to set up a mobile manufacturing unit in Pakistan. The aim is to discourage the manufacture and import of products under the banner of "Make in Pakistan". 

According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, mobile phone imports increased by 63% to  1.86 billion in the first 11 months of fiscal year 2021, compared to  1.13 billion in the same period of fiscal year 2020. It was a million dollars.

According to the Economic Survey Pakistan 21-2020, from July 2012 to February 2021, the telecom sector received  3.9 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI). It should be noted that the government had recently given a big tax rebate on expensive smartphones - the duty on mobile phones costing less than 500 USD and more than 350 USD has been reduced from Rs 17,650 to Rs 15,000 per set. While the duty on mobile phones worth more than 500 USD has been reduced from Rs 31,520 to Rs 22,000.

The FBR estimates that the addition of three slabs will add another Rs 16 billion. On the other hand, the bad news for those looking to buy smaller mobile phones is that the tax on small mobile phones has been increased. 

According to the report, for those sets that cost more than 100 USD and less than 200 USD. Regulatory duty has been increased from Rs 4,510 to Rs 7,500.

The regulatory duty on mobile phones costing more than 200 USD and less than 350 USD has been increased from Rs 6,180 to Rs 11,000. 

There are some mobile phone companies that have gained a lot of popularity in Pakistan and people do not choose tour brands other than them. 

On the contrary, to encourage Pakistani mobile manufacturers, the government has revised the tax on 6 different slabs according to the value of imported mobile phones.
